    Agave

Installed in December 2003, Gordon Huether’s piece reflects the landscape of the area around it. Set in the City of Palm Desert’s Baja themed walking park, the artwork blurs the line between the natural and the fabricated. “Agave” was fabricated from salvaged aluminum fuel tanks from aircrafts. The hollow forms have been polished and then sliced vertically to resemble the leaves of the plant. The reflective surface mirror the surrounding colors of the sky, soil, clouds, and cars that pass by it throughout the day and night.

The piece offers a wonderful sense of discovery while driving or walking down Fred Waring Drive and watching as the piece slowly reveals itself from within the natural landscape in which it has been “planted”.
