Lynice
Visual Artist
About the artist: Lynice’s life began in the Midwest, Illinois, Kansas, then Missouri. She earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Kansas, followed by a career in the technology industry, which took her to St. Louis for several years. The early 1990s found her in Portland, Oregon, a hotbed of the Studio Glass movement, where a transformation began.
Once in Portland, Lynice earned a Masters Degree in Computer Science, but her technology life was to be short-lived. Soon after settling in to her new hometown, she discovered the allure of glass as an artistic medium, an awakening driven in part by the fertile environment of the Portland glass scene. She let her right brain provide life-balance through a class in stained glass, followed by further education and experimentation in kiln-forming with art glass. Now the personal transformation was in full gear and Lynice was not looking back. The energy and passion she experienced in working with glass motivated her to set up a first studio behind her floating house on the Columbia River, which provided inspiration for several of her early pieces. Since the middle 1990's she has worked with glass as a serious pursuit, spent long hours roaming the Pacific Northwest glass scene, and taken workshops with established artists such as Boyce Lundstrom, Newy Fagan, Don McKinney, Tim Dorland, and Robert Leatherbarrow.
Having realized a dream that first formed over a decade in the past, Lynice works full-time creating artwork. Her studio, ViscosityWorks, is now housed in the dedicated glass art studio building in southern California personally constructed by Lynice and her husband to host the realization of inspiration. The unique artwork created by Lynice is motivated and created solely from her personal vision, unless otherwise credited.
