Artist Detail
Georg Burwick
Performance Artist - Visual Artist
About the artist: Georg Burwick is a graduate of Pitzer College (1997) with a double major in German Studies and Visual Arts. He received his Masters of Fine Arts (2001) from the University of Chicago with an emphasis in installation and video. His work has been shown in various galleries and museums across the United States. Currently, he is the Director of Digital Media at UCR ARTSblock, composed of the UCR/California Museum of Photography, Sweeney Art Gallery, and the future (2010) Culver Center of the Arts.
Burwick’s work employs concepts of time, space, and memory, using photography, video and installation techniques to mediate between the viewer’s personal experiences and his constructed representations. Within the technological history of photography, and subsequently film, practitioners have examined the relationship between the reality of their images and the borders of human perception. Using this approach as the basis for his exploration, Burwick focuses on the space between the screen and the viewer, challenging the viewer to reexamine commonplace objects and situations.
