Sara Chasse-Phillips

Composer - Musician - Singer

About the artist: Sara Phillips has been immersed in music and the arts since the age of 3. She began her training on pedal harp through the Indiana University Pre-College program. Sara has studied both the Grandjany and Salzedo Method of harp. She currently plays in the Grandjany style and studies with Celia Chan Valerio, who is the harp professor at La Sierra University.

Sara has attended the Brevard Summer Music Festival in Brevard, North Carolina in 2001 on scholarship. There she studied under Susan Brady and performed in two orchestras as principal harpist. As a part of her scholarship she performed at multiple country clubs to help raise money for the festival.

In 2003 and 2004 Sara recieved a full scholarship to attend the Hartwick Summer Music Festival in Oneonta, New York as a counselor and performer. In 2003 she studied under Fran Duffy and performed with multiple ensembles. In 2004 Sara performed with multiple ensembles including the festival pops orchestra conducted by guest artist Skitch Henderson.

Before moving to California, Sara attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana as a harp performance major. There she studied under Elizabeth Richter. While attending college in Indiana, Sara performed with the Indianapolis Youth Symphony as well as the New World Youth Symphony for 2 years.

Sara has played for cancer patients in the Bloomington Community Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana. She has also played for patients on their death bed and one particular patient in a coma. His name is Mike and he is still alive today. Sara played by Mike's hospital bed for two weeks right after he was hit by a drunk driver and put in a coma in 2001.

Sara currently resides in Riverside, California with her husband Frederick and her cat Satie. Sara is currently working on her B.A. in music, and plans to continue until her Ph.D. She is a very enthusiastic performer. Her goals are to travel as a concert harpist and teach.
