Dorothy Ramon Learning Center
Dorothy Ramon Learning Center was named for a Serrano Indian who grew up on Morongo Reservation, the last pure speaker of the Serrano language (she learned it as her first language). She worked with a linguist for 12 years to save the language. Because of this work Serrano is now being taught on two Reservations in southern California. The Dorothy Ramon Learning Center and Ushkana Press (its publishing arm) are dedicated to saving and sharing southern California Indian cultures, including arts, languages, music, history. The group publishes a quarterly newsletter, sponsors cultural events, and publishes scholarly work for use in schools and for the public.
