Amargosa Opera House and Hotel

In 1967 Marta Becket and her husband took a vacation in Death Valley and never left. She fell in love with a little abandoned theatre and agreed to rent it for $45 a month and to assume reponsibility for the repairs. Originally called Corkhill Hall she renamed the theatre Amargosa Opera House. Marta gave her first performance in the theatre on February 10, 1968. From that day on the doors of the Amargosa Opera House opened without fail at 7:45 p.m. and curtain parted promptly at 8:15 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Monday night.
