Mixed Signals: 2nd & 3rd Thursdays Poetry Events In this monthly workshop series at the Riverside Art Museum, poetry writing is explored through individual practice, the study of works by noted writers, and opportunities to share your work with others. 2nd Thursdays: Monthly Poetry Workshops 6:30-9pm  Section 1 (40min): Guided workshop led by accomplished local writers.  Section 2 (20min): Presentation and discussion of a noted writer.  Section 3 (60min): Peer editing, writing activities, or writing time. Open to attend any or all sections. Thursday, February 9th: Cindy Okamura from Riverside Community College will lead a workshop entitled “Creating Metaphors”. Digress Magazine publisher Annie Knight will discuss how the dialogue and imagery in La Loca's poetry can be a source of inspiration for memoir-type writing. Thursday, March 9th: Local poet, publisher, and activist Angela Chaos and Annie Knight discuss the ways Zines, Chapbooks, and independent publishing can inspire and help writers push the bounds of their own writing. S. Alaska Whelan will present the work of revolutionary poet, artist, and publisher d.a. levy and his critical and turbulent role in the preservation of D.I.Y. American publishing. 3rd Thursdays: Poetry Reading 6:30-9pm This listed reading strives to combine both classic and contemporary styles in a monthly poetry event. Open to the community, participants in the workshops are invited and encouraged to share their work along side other local poets. Free to members! Only $5.00 to non-members Looking Ahead... April 13th: Workshop by Angela Chaos- Every writer has experienced writer's block at some point; this workshop explicates theories and techniques to help writers work through it and begin writing again. May 11th: Workshop by UCR Professor Juan Felipe Herrera and graduate students of the Eagle Nebula Writers Circle.
