    This is the 30th annual Alternative Gift Fair in Riverside, a community-wide effort that draws from a variety of faith traditions to offer an alternative to mall shopping this holiday season. Come buy handmade baskets and jewelry from Ten Thousand Villages, greeting cards and purses from artists at Temple Beth El, and scarves and other clothing from a Hindu tradition. Parking is free and convenient. Delicious vegetable soup and bread makes this an easy lunch stop. Children’s activities include art and sometimes there are even bunnies to pet.


    Just a few of the organizations involved: the co-host Universalist Unitarians; Quakers; Temple Beth El; Inland Communities Fellowship of Reconciliation; United Methodist Women; Habitat for Humanity; Heifer International; Lutheran World Relief crafts; Madison Street Church; and others. Started in 1981 at First Christian Church, the fair has made the holidays brighter for many people around the world. Last year’s fair raised more than $15,000 for non-profit causes.
