Oral Tradition in NAtive American Literature

This course explores the relationship between Native American oral traditions and Native American written literature. Participants gain an understanding of the oral tradition, including mythology and traditional stories, with emphasis on storytelling as education, entertainment, and social interaction. Special attention is given to how oral tradition is handled by Native American authors in their writings.
