In conjunction with the exhibition, "Humanitas: Images of India by Fredric Roberts" and presented by the Museum of History and Art, Ontario and Inlandia Institute, this engaging presentation features readings from ancient Hindu texts along with interpretations through Bharata Natyam, one of the oldest dance forms in India. Its roots can be traced back to the Dasiattam dance traditions of Tamil Nadu in South India. The poems will be read by Dr. Surekha Acharya, a professor of English and Anthropology at Riverside Community College. Interpreting the poetry through dance is Rohini Acharya, a classically trained Bharata Natyam dancer.

The program demonstrates poetic traditions from ancient Vedic texts and devotional poetry. The Vedic civilization is the earliest civilization in Indian history of which we have written records that we understand. It is named after the Vedas, the earliest Hindu texts.

Dr. Su Acharya, an associate professor of English has taught at RCC for the past 20 years. She has a doctorate from UC Riverside in Anthropology and is an active member of the community. Her passions include traveling, reading, music and cooking (top-right).

Rohini Acharya is a trained Bharata Natyam (South Indian classical dance form) dancer. She earned her B.A. in World Arts and Culture at UCLA with a concentration in Dance. She plans to pursue a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance (top-left).
