Outsider Insight: Works by Chuck Huang

The works selected for this exhibit delve into the many complexities that make up the seemingly simple act of looking. Looking, of course, is fundamental when interacting with art; but it is also the primary way in which we take in and understand the world. With this in mind, Chuck Huang has carefully crafted his artwork as individual studies of the visual interaction that occurs between the subject within and the viewer outside of the work of art. Interestingly, some of the works depict people looking at art, capturing the very act that the viewer is currently engaged in. Through the slight vein of ambiguity that runs through his work, Huang makes clear the narrow differences that exist between sight and perception.

Executed in meticulous realism, the artworks on display seem as though they are windows to the world, encouraging the viewer to consider what it truly means to see and be seen. This is a very relevant and thought-provoking train of thought especially when considering today’s transparent culture driven by social media such as Facebook and YouTube.

The opening reception will be held on January 28 from 3-5pm.
