On September 9, 2009, the California State Assembly voted to "designate the month of October 2009, and every October thereafter, as Filipino American History Month." PVFAA is pleased to celebrate the Pilipino-American Heritage to recognize and honor the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of Filipinos in the Continental United States. October was likely chosen because the first recorded presence of a Pilipino in the Continental United States was in October 1587.
