The Golden Valley Music Society presents bassoonist Katherine Ortega on Sunday, July 18 at 3:00 p.m. The program is part of the weekly Classics at the Merc chamber music series. She will be accompanied by Diane Snodgrass on piano. While this will be Katherine’s local debut as a professional musician, she’s no stranger to the local stage. A native of Temecula, Katherine started her musical career at Temecula Middle School where she was a student of Brad Hinkson, and Temecula Valley High School, where her band director was Tom Hrbacek. As a student, she performed locally with the Valley Winds Community Band and the Inland Valley Symphony, as well as the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra. After graduating from TVHS, Katherine received a Bachelor’s degree from the USC Thornton School of Music. She just completed her Masters degree in bassoon performance at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where she studied with bassoonists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
