The Cajon Pass: Southern California's geological treasure trove

On Saturday, February 20, join Senior Curator Kathleen Springer for her lecture, “The Cajon Pass: Southern California’s geological treasure trove,” at 2pm at the San Bernardino County Museum. “The Cajon Pass has a long and varied geological history,” said Springer. “Its fascinating story includes subduction of tectonic plates, the incursions of ocean waters, meandering rivers, and the uplift of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains demarcated by the boundary of the two largest plates on earth, the San Andreas Fault.” The fossil treasures in the Cajon Pass are entombed in the rocks that tell this story and Springer’s lecture will describe the evolution of this fascinating area of southern California, truly a geological and paleontologic treasure trove.
