The first annual Harry Moore Memorial Solo Piping and Drumming Competition will present bagpipers and Scottish-style drummers in full regalia playing tunes of Celtic heritage; the haunting music of the Great Highland Bagpipe and snare, tenor or bass drum. The competition, which is open to the public, will be held at the beautiful Canyon Crest Country Club on Saturday March 27, 2010 starting at 9 AM; 975 Country Club Dr, Riverside, California. Hosted by the University of California, Riverside Pipe Band, a workshop will also be offered on playing and competing with Celtic musical instruments such as the Great Highland Bagpipe. Celtic vendors, a buffet lunch, a full bar and other amenities will be available. The competition is in memory of the UCR Pipe Band's first Drum Sergeant, Mr. Harry Moore. Harry is no longer with us, but would've been pleased to see a performing arts - competition established to promote the playing of Scottish-style drumming along with the bagpipe, or "agony bag" as Harry used to call it. Competition will include: Grade 4 solo bagpipe: 2/4 March, 6/8 March, Slow March Grade 3 solo bagpipe: 2/4 March, Strathspey & Reel, Jig Grade 4 solo snare drum: 2/4 March, 6/8 March Grade 3 solo snare drum: 2/4 March, Strathspey & Reel Grade 2 solo tenor drum: 4-part March Bass: 4-part March This competition is sanctioned by the Western United States Pipe Band Association.
