Uncovered: A Pageant of Hip Hop Masters

The public is invited to the free theatrical performance UNCOVERED: A Pageant of Hip Hop Masters on Friday, November 13 at 7 p.m. at UCR Palm Desert, 75-080 Frank Sinatra Drive in Palm Desert. “Uncovered” is a dynamic collision of the traditional and the contemporary, that recreates through the use of the tableau vivant theatrical technique, life-sized versions of classic album covers from several hip-hop artists including: Run DMC, Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Salt ‘N Pepa, Biggie and Jay Z. This recreation is accompanied by a DJ’s mix of songs from each album while dancers display moves that were popular during the album’s release. “Live actors, dancers, and DJ’s transform the space into a stage where the unbridled creativity of one of the most distinctive American cultural movements in this generation takes flesh, stands up, and is recognized,” said UCR associate professor and producer, Rickerby Hinds. “Hip Hop in its original form was not a multi-million dollar enterprise. It was, and still is, about the act of reclaiming one’s environment and re-imaging it in creative, dynamic ways. “Uncovered” will take a giant step toward that recovery.
