The Calder Quartet

The Calder Quartet – Benjamin Jacobson, Andrew Bulbrook (violins), Jonathan Moerschel (viola), and Eric Byers (cello)—boasts a sound that is “big, bold, firm, and clean,” (Los Angeles Times) just like the towering mobiles Alexander Calder made famous. The quartet takes on another 20th century master – Béla Bartók and his six quartets. The cycle, thought to be the most important since Beethoven’s, embrace both eastern European folk music and the western classical tradition, while revolutionizing the expressive possibilities of the string quartet.
