How much of what you see about forensics on television is good science and how much is just entertainment? David Van Norman, a San Bernardino County Deputy Coroner Investigator and Unidentified-Missing Person Coordinator, will compare what we see on TV with reality in his lecture, “CSI San Bernardino: Myth vs Reality,” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Wednesday, July 22 at 7:30pm. This guest lecture is free to the public. Van Norman will give the audience a view of real-world crime scene work, while comparing and contrasting that reality with our entertainment-driven expectations. He will present some cases from a “WWGD” (What Would Grissom Do?) perspective, and then describe what was actually done—without, of course, the holograms and million dollar equipment. David Van Norman joined the County of San Bernardino Coroner Department in June 1992, and has investigated over 6,000 deaths since that time. A Shift Supervisor/Watch Commander for 7 years, he became the full-time Unidentified-Missing Persons Coordinator in 2006. He also serves on the Coroner Recovery Team. Van Norman has a master’s degree in experimental psychology, and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. This program is one of a series of evening guest lectures offered at no charge by the museum. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. The museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. If assistive listening devices or other auxiliary aids are needed in order to participate in museum exhibits or programs, requests should be made through Museum Visitor Services at least three business days prior to your visit.
