Obtaining GIS data for various analyses involves determining appropriate sources, determining if the data is appropriate for the type of analysis and determining if generating one's own data is necessary. This course introduces the student to census data and other types of GIS data, and acquisition, classification and visualization methods using ArcGIS. The course includes tools to improve data quality by incorporating metadata development methods into the data acquisition process.
