The Reading Discoveries book discussion group will meet at the San Bernardino County Museum on Wednesday, June 10, to discuss “Dust,” by Joseph Amato. This 7:30pm meeting is free to the public. “How small is small?” asked Curator of Education Redvale. “There is the dust we can see and the dust that makes us sneeze. But the 20th century technology has redefined elements of dust to bend the imagination.” With “Dust,” Joseph Amato enthralls the reader with the first history of the small and the invisible. It is a poetic meditation on how dust has been experienced and the small has been imagined across the ages. Examining a thousand years of Western civilization—from the naturalism of medieval philosophy, to the artistry of the Renaissance, to the scientific and industrial revolutions, to the modern worlds of nanotechnology and viral diseases—“Dust” offers a savvy story of the genesis of the microcosm. The Reading Discoveries book discussion program meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30p.m. The discussion is open to the public free of charge. For more information about the discussion group, contact Jolene Redvale at (909) 307-2669 ext. 252 or e-mail jredvale@sbcm.sbcounty.gov.
