Gallery Walk in Agua Mansa Pioneer Cemetery
May 8, 2009
Add Review/Comment
Join San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen on Friday, May 8, for a gallery walk in Agua Mansa Pioneer Cemetery in Colton. This informal walk-around will start at 1pm, and is free to public. Nielsen will discuss objects, current research, and photographs related to the cemetery and the greater South Colton region. “We are very happy to begin our project to re-establish exhibits in our museum building here at Agua Mansa Cemetery” said Nielsen. “The story of the original settlers who came from Abiquiu, New Mexico on what is now called the Old Spanish Trail is a fascinating one. Subsequent generations of people have been buried here, and their stories reflect the history of the greater community in our area, and are an important part of our collective story.” Over the coming year, renovation work will be conducted at the site, including outdoor kiosk exhibits and a bird-watching trail. To find out more, please call Michele Nielsen at (909) 307-2669 ext. 240. Agua Mansa Pioneer Cemetery is a San Bernardino County Museum historic site. It is located at 2001 W. Agua Mansa Road in Colton, CA 92324. The site is open to the public on Fridays from noon to 3pm; Saturdays from 11am to 3pm; and first Sunday of each month from noon to 3pm. For more information, call (909) 370-2091, contact the San Bernardino County Museum at (909) 307-2669, or visit www.sbcountymuseum.org. Admission to Agua Mansa Pioneer Cemetery is free.
