Insectival!

What kind of insect can live for 50 years? Which bugs taste with their feet? And how many “knees” do spiders have? Find out the answers as you encounter these insects at the “Insectival!” at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, March 14 from 9am to 5pm. “It is going to be one fun creepy crawly day at the Insectival,” said Museum Educator Nancy Kirkwood. “Families will be able to explore the fascinating world of insects by meeting live bugs up close and personal. Children can also enjoy insect games, making crafts to bring home, face-painting, story-telling, and more.” Artist Trudy Wood will teach bug drawing techniques to children ages 8 to 18 starting at 9:45am. Classes are free but space is limited; timed tickets to these classes are available at the museum’s front desk starting at 9am. At 12:15 and 3pm, kids will be invited to join the “Insect Olympics,” comparing their abilities, such as jumping and carrying, to what different types of bugs can do. At 11:00 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., families will like learning “All about Bugs,” a special presentation with lots of live bugs that is appropriate for all ages. Insectival activities are sponsored in part by the James Irvine Foundation. All Insectival activities, classes, and presentations are free with paid Museum admission.
