Celebrate the 200-year anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150-year anniversary of Darwin’s earth shaking book, ”On the Origin of Species,” with a presentation by Curator of Paleontology Eric Scott at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, February 8. This lecture, at 2pm, will be free with museum admission. Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, the very same day as Abraham Lincoln. The theory of evolution, first advanced by Darwin in his book in 1859, remains one of the most far-reaching and powerful scientific theories ever proposed. “Here at the museum, all sorts of people ask us about evolution,” said Scott. “And there are a lot of misperceptions out there–not only about how evolution takes place, but about where and how the theory itself can be applied. Since the 200-year anniversary of Darwin’s birth is being celebrated worldwide, this seemed an appropriate time to address some of these questions head-on.” Scott’s presentation will discuss the scientific theory of evolution, how it works, and some of the more common assumptions–both accurate and inaccurate–often made about evolution.
