Growing up, being an artist was Jerry Yarnell's only ambition. Early in his career he began teaching but was not able to concentrate on developing his style of art, due to the high volume of demand for his workshops. He moved to Taos in New Mexico where he was able to hold an artist-in-residence position. Yarnell came to admire the work of Bob Abbett, an impressionistic wildlife artist as well as artist Richard Schmidt. He eventually moved back to his hometown of Oklahoma to continue teaching. He began making tapes for students to use as they continued their education in art when one of those student decided to take a tape to PBS. Soon after, Yarnell was offered a contract and began The Inspiration of Painting television series. After a battle with Non-Hodgkin's B-Cell Lymphoma in 1995 he started again with his own PBS television series entitled, Jerry Yarnell School of Fine Art which continues to air nationwide. The author of twelve books, Jerry is often invited to be the keynote speaker for entertainment or educational purposes for schools, civic groups, environmental groups, corporate meetings and conventions. Jerry's love for teaching also keeps him busy holding workshops across the United States as well as private lessons in his studio.
