Performance Riverside Salutes Broadway with Sensational Showtunes: Up Close and Personal

Sensational Showtunes: Up Close and Personal opens March 27 at Performance Riverside. Performance Riverside's annual festival of Broadway's best, features a cast headlined by Broadway veteran and Redlands native Byron Nease. It's is an elegant salute to the Great White Way, featuring lovingly crafted renditions of the best in Broadway showtunes, a look forward to Performance Riverside's 2009-2010 season, and a personal look at just what goes into the making of those who make the theatre their life's work. The show is directed by Gary Krinke, and musically directed by Scott T. Smith.

Broadway veteran leading man Byron Nease is a Southland native who made his Broadway debut across from Angela Lansbury Mame, which has lead him to and varied career. He's most notable for over 1,700 performances of Raoul in Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom of the Opera, and the titular role in the successful Kopit/Yeston production Phantom. He's also a motivational speaker, and the author the new book, BEHIND THE MASK . No More, an inspiring story of survival, hope, life lessons, and re-invention.

Sensational Showtunes also features three of Performance Riverside's most talented leading ladies: Vonetta Mixson (Dreamgirls) Renee Jensen (Phantom, Oklahoma), Lisa Livesay (Peter Pan), and newcomer Robyn Yamanaka, fresh from director Krinke's production of Guys and Dolls at Fullerton College.

A limited number of cabaret-style VIP seats to Sensational Showtunes are also available. This unique experience is the ultimate treat for theatre-buffs, who sit onstage in the very best seats in they house as they experience these award-winning showstoppers up close and personal.

The Landis Performing Arts Center is located on the Riverside City College campus at 4800 Magnolia Avenue. Performances of Sensational Showtunes: Up Close and Personal are March 27, 28, April 3 and 4 at 8pm and March 28, 29, April 4 and 5 at 2pm. Tickets are $25, $30, $37, and $43. A specially priced "Discovery Theatre" performance with $8 ticketsfor school and senior groups is also available March 27 at 10am.
