The San Bernardino County Museum’s annual multicultural festival this year will celebrate dance. Sixteen regional dance groups are scheduled to perform during the festival on Saturday, October 18, from 9am to 5pm. “The festival is all about music, pageantry, and learning more about cultural traditions through dance,” said Michele Nielsen, museum curator of History. “Families can watch live dance performances and chat with performers to learn about their techniques and the history behind their dance styles. In addition to the performance stage, we’ll have a “steppin’ stage” where dancers will teach steps and encourage visitors to join in.” Performing groups in the morning include Bat Hadah Davidic Dancing (Redlands); Maria Mendoza Hula (Redlands); Ballet Folklorico Las Aguilas (Fontana); An Jum Belly Dance (Riverside); the Hmong Archives and Cultural Center dancers (Banning); and International Folk Dancing of Redlands. Starting at noon, there will be performances by La Paloma Spanish Dancers (Redlands), Showcase Studios MoTown Hip Hop (Highland), Buckworld One—KRUMP (San Bernardino), Bon Odori Dancing from the West Covina Buddhist Temple; Maori–Micronesian Dance from Suzy’s Hula School (Riverside); Calico Quails Square Dance (Yucaipa); Tierra de mi Padre Ballet Folklorico (Fontana); Egyptian Tribal Middle Eastern Dance (Upland), Tahitian dance with the Moya Lani Polynesian Dance Studio (Redlands); and Danzas de Aztlan Aztec Dancers (San Bernardino). Ballet Folklorico de Mexico of Riverside will also participate. “Performances will be nearly non-stop on one stage, with action on the steppin’ stage at the same time,” said Jolene Redvale, curator of education. “With so much going on, visitors can easily dance away a whole day at the museum, and come home with a new appreciation of the diverse cultural traditions alive in our area.” Snacks, beverages, and lunch will be available for purchase at the museum during the festival.
