What was Wyatt Earp up to in Trona? Find out when Russell Kaldenberg speaks on “The Arrest of Wyatt Earp” on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30pm at the San Bernardino County Museum. This guest lecture is free to the public. Kaldenberg’s talk will harken back to the days of organized claim-jumping of mining claims at Searles Lake in far north San Bernardino County in 1910 that led to the arrest of Wyatt Earp at Slate Range City during the little-remembered Potash Wars. This eventually led to the founding of Trona, California and the industrial development of Searles Valley. Kaldenberg is a principal for ASM Affiliates, a cultural resources management firm, managing their Rocky Mountain Division in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He retired from federal service as the Base Archaeologist for China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station and spent most of his career with the Bureau of Land Management in California. A native of Kern County, he grew up in the historic oil fields near Taft, California. He received his Master’s Degree in Anthropology from San Diego State University and is on the Board of Directors for the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Association in Goffs, California. This program is part of a series of guest lectures offered at no charge by the county museum. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
