Join First 5 San Bernardino, in cooperation with San Bernardino County Museum, for storytelling, library cards, free educational games and prizes at the All Aboard the Reading Railroad Literacy Fair at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, November 2. Perfect for children age 5 and under and their families, this free event will offer activities and information from School Readiness programs from across the County. From 9:00am to 3:00pm, First 5 San Bernardino shows families the fun in developing daily reading habits and cultivating a love of books. Children will be invited into the Museum for free and will receive a passport to each reading station. At each station, children will hear a story told by a storyteller. After all stations have been visited, Kindergarten and Preschool children will receive a back pack filled with school supplies. At the conclusion of the storytelling, children can participate in the many activities in the Museum’s Courtyard, including games, learning centers and even getting their very own library cards. Parents can receive information on the importance of early reading and how to incorporate books into their daily routines. The event will also focus on the importance of the parents’ role to read early and read aloud to their sons and daughters. “Current research overwhelmingly supports the importance of facilitating early and emerging literacy skills in preschool-age children as a critical foundation for literacy development,” said Karen Scott, Executive Director of First 5 San Bernardino. Studies have shown that children who are read to often are more successful in school, helps with their brain stimulation and builds their self esteem and listening skills. The San Bernardino County Museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands, For more information about All Aboard the Reading Railroad , school readiness programs or literacy tips, please call (909)-386-7706 or visit www.first5sanbernardino.org.
