Tenor Hugh Roland and Pianist Michael Noble in Concert

Add Review/CommentMichael Noble and Hugh Roland, both of whom grew up in the Inland Empire, will perform at the Brandstater Gallery at La Sierra University on August 31 at 5:00 PM. The two will play a selection of songs including German Lied and solo piano selections. Admission is free.Refreshments will be served following the concert. La Sierra University is located at 4500 Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside. Pianist Michael Noble gave his first public recital at the age of six. He later attended the Idyllwild Arts Academy, a boarding arts high school in Southern California where he studied with Dean of the Arts, Nelms McKelvain. He has won numerous awards and competitions including the 2005 Idyllwild Arts Concerto Competition. As a result, Michael performed Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra. Upon graduation he was awarded the highest honor for a musician at the Academy: the Outstanding Musician of 2005-2006. This past September he won 2nd prize in the Chopin International Competition of the Thousand Islands. Michael has performed in numerous master classes for eminent musicians including Gary Graffman, John Perry, Boris Berman, Lewis Kaplan, Richard Danielpour, and Dennis Kim. He has participated in such festivals as the Eastern Music Festival in North Carolina, the Morningside Music Bridge in Shanghai, China, and the Aspen Music Festival. Most recently he attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick, Maine. He has worked with such pianists as Anton Nel, John O'Conor, Julian Martin, and Martin Canin. Michael will be a junior at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York where he is a student of Nelita True. He is earning a dual degree in Piano Performance at Eastman and English at the University of Rochester. This Fall, he will be attending the Paris Conservatoire as part of Eastman's Conservatory Exchange Program where he will work with concert pianist Nicholas Angelich. He will be returning to Southern California to give a solo recital in the Redlands Chamber Music Society concert series next March. Hugh Roland will be a junior at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He is a double degree student in Music Vocal Performance and Political Science. He is a tenor studying with Theresa Brancaccio. Hugh is also in the Chapel Choir. This summer he is interning in San Diego for Senator Dianne Feinstein and for a nonprofit organization called Survivors of Torture, International. During his time in high school at The Bishop's School in La Jolla, he sang in the school choir, The Bishop's Singers, as well as in a number of state honor choirs. During his time in middle school he sang in the Pasadena Boys Choir.
