MUSIC

California Chamber Orchestra- Mozart, Schubert, Minor
February 21, 2009
Add Review/CommentTonight’s concert, A WORLD PREMIERE, could be called memories for conductor Warren Gref, memories of friends, history and music contemporaries The program opens with a Mozart horn concerto performed by his old friend and colleague, Ethan Dulsky. Mozart was inspired to write this piece for Jacob Leutgeb, the most prominent horn soloist of the 1700s, and a friend of the composer. We think this piece will confirm “that’s what friends are for”. The second piece of the evening is a Schubert symphony written in 1816 when he was just 19 years of age. This lyrical four-movement symphony was one of the first compositions Mr. Gref conducted ten years ago, and he joyfully revisits it with the California Chamber Orchestra. After intermission we premiere a new work, presently untitled, by composer Ronald Minor, whose father was Mr. Gref’s mentor and private horn teacher. Young Ron, at age 6, would observe these lessons and eventually became a musician himself. After traveling the world as a musician, he currently resides in Orange County, CA. His composition for the orchestra is inspired by the beautiful Temecula Valley and its golden light. We are deeply honored to have this premiere piece written for the Golden Valley Music Society. Program: • Mozart – Horn Concerto # 4 in Eb K.495 • Schubert – Symphony # 4 in Bb Major, D.485 • Minor – Untitled World Premiere www.goldenvalleymusicsociety.org Performance: Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 7:30pm Tickets: $30 regular $25 senior $12.50 students over 12 $2.50 child 12 and under accompanied by an adult
