Corona Art Association's Artist of the Year Show Show opens March 15th at a reception for the artists at 5:30 until 7:00 pm in the ART HOUSE GALLERY, 510 W. Foothill Parkway, at Corona Heritage Park Museum For the first time in the 45 year history of CAA the Artist of the Year competition resulted in a TIE! The two artists are Mary Z. Novak and Alberto Varela. Both are long term members of the art community who are involved in the Corona Art Association and other community organizations and events. They share many characteristics in common and yet they display striking differences. One is a painter, the other primarily a photographer. One accentuates detail and depicts realism while the other captures real images and also creates abstractions from them. One artist practices tight technical control over medium while the other is prone to colorful experimentation. Both give us glimpses of life and the things we hold dear. Both suspend time for us and give us a look at our fondest memories. Mary's oil paintings are a frozen slice in time. Her attention to detail in every hair, in each slight variation in the petals of a flower alert us to the fact that we are viewing a precious memory that forever held still for us to see. In contrast Al's style feels casual and breezy like a series of rapid fire snapshots at a memorable house party. Sometimes they are in crisp focus and other times soft and blurry with the sense of motions and time passing. They too convey the importance of moments. Please join us to celebrate with Mary and Alberto on their special night! Refreshments will be served and art works will be available for sale. The exhibit runs through April 15th.
