Gallery Walk: What is a Dinosaur?

The word “dinosaur” once conjured a clear mental image of lumbering, drab, slow-moving giants doomed to extinction. Recent studies have largely dispelled this image, re-imagining dinosaurs as energized, colorful, successful creatures, large and small, whose era of dominance was ended only by a chance asteroid strike. In truth, dinosaurs were even more successful than that, and remain highly successful today, 65 million years after their “extinction.” Join Curator of Paleontology Eric Scott in a gallery walk at the San Bernardino County Museum on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. for a new look at these exciting and wonderful creatures whose living descendants–birds–continue to fascinate us. Museum admission is free that day, sponsored by Grounds for Enjoyment in Highland. A short, family-friendly talk will immediately be followed by a behind-the-scenes visit to the collections of the Museum’s Division of Geological Sciences and a preview of exhibits in the new Hall of Geological Wonders. It’s a treat for dinosaur fans of all ages.
