All Aboard! Train Days
January 19-January 20, 2008
Add Review/CommentAll Aboard! Come to the San Bernardino County Museum’s “Train Days” on Saturday and Sunday, January 19 and 20, from 9am to 5pm. Train Day activities are free with museum admission, and children aged 5 to 12 will be admitted to the museum at half price with a paid adult. Families can watch model trains as they run through scenic layouts set in a variety of time periods and locations. They can also see railroad tools and artifacts from real trains and try to run a train without derailing it. There will be several running model train layouts, including two 16 x 28 foot layouts each from the Pacific Coast Modular Club and Orange County Modular Railroaders. The Mark Anthony Circus Model Builders will set up their 8 x 12 foot circus layout. Smaller layouts will include a 1940s train set, a 1960s set with HO American Flyer and German Shuco Monorail, and a Christmas Garden scene set in 1900s, complete with a 4-foot Christmas tree and English porcelain houses. The San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society will be at the museum with information and artifacts about the restoration of locomotive 3751. Scott Baker will give a presentation at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday entitled “The History of Santa Fe Locomotive 3751.” The Women in Railroading Society will show their exhibit on Harvey Girls and other women in railroading. Join the Roundhouse Story Circle at 1pm Saturday and Sunday in the courtyard to share train memories and experiences with other railroad passengers, workers, and enthusiasts. Children can play train games with the Museum Youth Club on both days and the museum will display some rarely-seen railroad-related artifacts from its collections.
