UCR Wind Ensemble Holiday Concert

On December 8th the UCR Wind Ensemble conducted by Bill Helms, Director of Bands, will raise the volume on your holiday celebrations with a rousing concert featuring fifty five-plus student musicians and guest artists playing wind, brass and percussion instruments to announce the season in spectacular sound. Many favorites are reprised for this program of memorable music, including an instrumental arrangement of the classic holiday poem, “The Night Before Christmas” - featuring narrator Barbara Van Gaasbeck, Mel Torme’s “The Christmas Song” and “Waltz of the Flowers” from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” featuring harpist Mary Dropkin. In honor of the season of worldwide goodwill, the ensemble will also perform the “Ukrainian Bell Carol” and “Russian Christmas Music.” This classic composition for wind ensemble was commissioned in 1944 to promote Soviet-American relations and forms a musical impression of Old Russia during the jubilant Christmas season.
