The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from the venerable music landmark located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Built in 1750, Preservation Hall opened in 1961 when founders Allan and Sandra Jaffe envisioned it to be a haven for music. Since then, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been a “bridge across the ages” reaching back to the hey-day of traditional New Orleans music. Many of the band's charter members performed with the early pioneers of jazz including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, and Bunk Johnson. These founding artists and dozens of others passed on the lessons of their music to a younger generation like current band leader and trumpeter John Brunious. More than a concert, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band presents a special once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see and hear our living heritage.
