The Importance of Museum Collections

The county museum cares for more than two million objects in its permanent collections. Specimens and artifacts range from a steam locomotive to fossil mouse teeth. Join Museum Director Robert McKernan on Saturday, October 6 for an afternoon lecture “The Importance of Museum Collections,” at the San Bernardino County Museum at 2:00 p.m. This lecture is free with museum admission. “The cultural and natural heritage of our region is represented by our collections,” said Robert McKernan. “Each object represents authentic evidence of our region’s past, present, and even future. Through active research, interpretive programs, collections management, and exhibits, the museum engages the public in learning about inland Southern California and the southwest. The more we can learn about our past, the better we can make informed and sensitive decisions about the future.”
