Free Admission to the County Museum

Add Review/CommentOn Sunday, September 2, 2007, the San Bernardino County Museum will be open at no charge from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Free admission is sponsored by San Bernardino County First District. At 2:00pm, Curator of Paleontology Eric Scott will give a lecture, “Out of Depths: oceans to mountains, life to land,” examining why ocean rocks are found in the southern California deserts. “High mountains in the eastern part of the Mojave Desert are composed of marine rocks that date back hundreds of millions of years. These rocks, once an ancient Paleozoic era ocean floor, contain fossils of long-extinct marine-dwelling organisms,” says Scott. “How did these ocean floors become mountain peaks? It’s all about the scientific theory of plate tectonics.” Scott will also provide new information on the exhibits about the Paleozoic Era in the museum’s upcoming Hall of Geological Wonders. Visitors will also be able to enjoy special exhibits, “Living on the Edge: natural disasters in the San Bernardino County Museum” in the Fisk Gallery, and “Through the Looking Glass, children’s clothing of the past” in the Hall of History. The San Bernardino County Museum will also be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on September 3, Labor Day Monday.
