Through the Looking Glass: a century of children's clothing

“Through the Looking Glass: a century of children’s clothing,” is a special exhibit at the San Bernardino County Museum featuring children’s clothing from the 1850s to 1940s, from tiny shoes to christening gowns. The clothing and accessories in the exhibit are selected from the history division’s extensive collection of costumes and textiles. The exhibit will run through November 25, and is free with museum general admission. At the end of the nineteenth century, children were considered miniature adults and were dressed accordingly. What did a well-dressed child wear in the 1860s? How does that compare to children’s clothing in the mid-twentieth century? Explore children’s clothing and accessories in this special exhibit, along with some of the pastimes enjoyed (or considered appropriate!) for boys and girls.
