Astronomy Day at Night

Add Review/CommentJoin the museum’s Education Division and San Bernardino Valley Amateur Astronomy Club to celebrate National Astronomy Day at the San Bernardino County Museum on Saturday, April 21, starting at 7:00 p.m. This event is open to public free of charge. The evening will start with a presentation “Mars:The Arctic,” by James Butts, solar system ambassador for NASA. He will discuss the planet Mars and show images of the red planet. Rosemary Hyder, a NASA educator, will then present a show on the “New Horizons” space mission, the satellite mission to Pluto. “Astronomers have long dreamed and waited to see what the tiny frozen world really look like,” said astronomer Chris Clarke. “In eight years, it will be revealed for the first time in detail. Learn how it will all happen and what the astronomers are hoping to find in this illustrated program.” Following the presentations, the club astronomers will set up telescopes in front of the museum to share views of the crescent moon and planet Saturn with museum visitors. The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. Parking is free. For more information, visit www.sbcountymuseum.org.
