The Tomas Rivera Conference, usually held at the University of California, Riverside will take place at UCR Palm Desert this year. Prof. Juan Felipe Herrera, Tomas Rivera Endowed Chair at UCR's Creative Writing Program, will bring eight presenters to the Coachella Valley. The Keynote, "Latina Empowerment in the Schools," will be given by Margarita Robles, a well-known community education specialist. After the keynote, the community will have an opportunity to attend various "Carpas de Accion," "Workshop Tents" of their choice. These carpas will be open for half an hour every hour between 2:00 and 5:00. Workshop presenters will include migrant affairs writer Ruben Martinez, poet and muralist Tim Z. Hernandez, "Libros y Familias" founder Dick Keis and prized storyteller Antonio Sacre. The complete program will be available soon.
