Performance Riverside lights up Torch Songs and Jazz at Landis Performing Arts Center Inland Empire's most popular big band conductors, Richard Stover, and the Cabaret All Star Orchestra will share the stage with jazz singer Sherry Williams in Torch Songs and Jazz on March 4th at Landis Performing Arts Center. Torch Songs & Jazz features live orchestral and vocal music inspired by such dazzling legends as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. Richard Stover, conductor and composer, has performed with hundreds of stars...from Mel Torme to Bob Hope. He helped establish the Riverside Civic Light Opera and was its staff conductor for over thirty years. Composer and librettist of dozens of musicals and conductor of more than a thousand performances, Dick thought it was time to do some things he had always wanted to do. Among those was to develop the All Star Cabaret Orchestra, a classy twelve-piece group of professional recording artists that highlights music of theatre, jazz favorites and great pop tunes. A string section adds that wonderful orchestral sound that makes the group very special. Sherry William’s career as a song stylist began with The Young Americans and spans live concerts, television shows, and recordings. During her acclaimed career, Williams has performed with entertainment icon Debbie Reynolds and toured with Andy Gibb and the legendary Johnnie Ray. She was also a television favorite, appearing on such popular shows as Soul Train, The Glenn Campbell Show, The Della Reese Show, and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Landis Performing Arts Center is freeway close, offers free parking, easy access (especially for those needing reasonable accommodation) and has a host of nearby restaurants, shops and services in downtown Riverside and at the new Riverside Plaza. It’s a great opportunity for an exciting afternoon of fun and affordable nostalgia and entertainment. The Landis Performing Arts Center is located on the Riverside Community College City Campus at 4800 Magnolia Avenue. Torch Songs and Jazz plays on March 4, 2007 at 2pm. Tickets are $28, 24, 21, and $19, and may be purchased through the Landis Box Office at 951-222-8100. For more information, visit www.performanceriverside.org
