Feast: Christy Johnson and 33 Confessors

Johnson’s Feast project divests photographs of First Communicants of their symbolic value and locates them in a discursive site within a book. In the museum installation, the subjects have been enlarged into iconic representations, becoming guardian and witness to the artist’s book. By combining this archive of commemorative images with one of texts shaped by interviews with invisible communicants the artist invents a fictive location for experience and memory. Christy Johnson is a London-based artist originally from Los Angeles, California. Her work includes public art commissions, museum intervention, installation and sites beyond the gallery.
