Another exciting cultural “first” for the residents of Rancho Cucamonga is about to occur. On October 20th at 7:30 p.m., members of the Rancho Cucamonga Community Theatre Company will “take over” the stage as they present Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Our Town. It is the very first Community Theatre production on the Lewis Family Playhouse Stage, which opened just over one month ago. These local community actors are ready to “own” the space in a big way. The City has been producing summer musicals since 2001. The building of the new Cultural Center was in mind when the program was expanded last year to include four additional productions each year creating an annual Community Theatre Season which this year includes “Our Town,” “Side by Side by Sondheim,” “Big River,” and “The Foreigner.” The productions were previously presented in rented high school auditoriums and a renovated senior center which became available when the new senior center was built as part of the Central Park complex. The Lewis Family Playhouse was complete in August of this year and includes 536-seats, complete dressing room facilities, rehearsal hall, and state of the art technical equipment -- a remarkable situation for any amateur theatre group. Many of the community actors have been in multiple productions within the city’s popular program and come from all walks of life: school teacher, carpenter, lawyer, marketing manager, high school student, college professor and so on. Their passion for performing and the arts brings them to the theatre after working all day to become stars of the stage. The Rancho Cucamonga Theatre Company also includes volunteers working backstage, ushers, and those who simply love the theatre and want to be part of this amazing program in its remarkable new space. “Our Town,” directed by Michael Naffziger, will be performed Fridays and Saturdays and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. starting October 20 through 22 and October 27 through 29, 2006. General Admission tickets are $12 and youth/seniors are $10 with a $1.50 theatre facility fee per ticket. Tickets are on sale now at the Box Office at (909) 477-2752, on the web at VGculturalcenter.com, or in person at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center located at 12505 Cultural Center Drive in Rancho Cucamonga. The cast of 29 local actors includes Gary Ablard (Stage Manager), Lauren Bell (Emily), Mitch Burke (George), Steve Siegel (Mr. Gibbs), Arlene Lea (Mrs. Gibbs), Lee Bane (Doc Webb), Susan Reeves (Mrs. Webb), Janet Hodge (Mrs. Soames), Michael Cluff (Simon Stimson). Rounding out the cast are Etel Buss, Daniel Cabaruvais, Craig Fabian, Gavin Fonesca, Craig Higgins, Michael Holguin, Jason McNichols, Matt Mizell, Will Plunkett, Chelsea Pope, Willie Puertas, Jessica Puertas, Danielle Quijada, Madison Ramos, Ashley Renftle, Jenifer Rubino, Eric Sepulveda, Donald Stauffer, and Jamila Vorise.
